Margaret is a geographer (Bristol University, UK), with a masters in Industrial Engineering (Northwestern University, Illinois) and PhD on Social Forestry in Sri Lanka (Twente University, Netherlands).  She has worked for more than 40 years on questions relating to community forest management, primarily in Africa and Asia; in the last ten years, this research has been in the context of climate change. She was scientific director of the international project ¨Kyoto: Think Global. Act Local¨ which explored the potential for community forest monitoring in REDD+ projects (2003-2009), and advisor to the Netherlands Development Cooperation on energy and environment throughout the 1990´s, and is currently advisor to CONAFOR (the Mexican National Forest Commission) on MRV for the national REDD+ strategy.

Research Associate
Current work place: CIGA, UNAM

Adrian received a bachelor’s degree in Biology by the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC), Argentina and a PhD in Natural Resource Management by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Adrian’s broad interests are energy security for the poor and spatial modeling of natural resources potential, with emphasis on wood-energy. In particular, Adrian’s research interests are a) spatial assessment of the environmental impacts of fuelwood extraction and charcoal production under traditional or low-tech patterns; b) woodfuels supply/demand scenarios by means of prospective landscape simulations; and c) spatial analysis and modeling of bioenergy potentials.Adrian is the responsible teacher for the course Applied Geostatistics, within UNAM’s Master Programme in Landscape Planning, and an assistant teacher of Energy and Environment, within UNAM’s BS Programme in Environmental Sciences. Adrián is currently an Associate Professor at the Environmental Geography Research Centre at UNAM. Within CIGA-REDD he is in charge of the quantitative spatial analyses and modeling.
